Jan 16, 2001 is the Ten Year Anniversary
of the start of the Gulf War "Desert Storm" in Feb. 2000, the Army
re-classified two deaths as non-hostile lowering its total K.I.A. to 96 and
thus the grand U.S. total to 146.
Jan. 17, 1945 Polish and Soviet troops liberated Warsaw during World
War II.
Jan. 18, 1943 Nazi siege at Leningrad broken.
Jan. 18, 1919 In Versailles, France World War I Peace Congress begins.

almost entirely of Japanese Americans is authorized; They will become one of
the most decorated Military Units of World War II
Feb. 1, 1968 Vietnam; Saigon Police Chief Nguyen Ngoc Loan executes
a Viet Cong Officer who has just committed a terrorist act with a pistol
shot to the head, in what becomes a famous news photo.
Feb. 2, 1848 The Mexican War ends as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
is signed.
Feb. 2, 1943 World War II: Soviet Forces are victorious in the battle for
Stalingrad as Nazi Forces surrender.
Feb. 2, 1991 Scud missiles are fired from Iraq toward Israel and Saudi
Arabia with no serious damage reported.
Feb. 5, 1951 Korea: Battle of hill 440 begins.
Feb. 7, 1944 World War II: German Forces launch a counter-offensive at Anzio,

Feb. 15, 1989 The last Soviet Troops depart Afghanistan after 9 years of

Feb. 16, 1804 Lt. Stephen Decatur leads a successful raid into Tripoli
harbor and burns the U.S. Navy frigate Philadelphia, which had fallen into
the hands of pirates.
Feb. 16, 1945 World War II: U.S. Forces land on Corregidor in the

U.S. B-52 Bombers attack Communist Bases in Cambodia for the first time in
the war.
Apr. 1, 1945 World War II: 50,000 U.S. Combat Troops land on Okinawa with the assistance of over 1300 ships which converged on the island. They faced a Japanese force of 120,000 (made up of troops, militia, and laborers.)
Apr. 1, 1972 Vietnam: The Nguyen Hue offensive by the North Vietnamese begins with Hanoi's 304th Division ( 12,000 to 15,000 soldiers, supported by tanks, artillery, and surface to air missiles) as they sweep across the D.M.Z. South Vietnamese forces of the 3rd Division are driven toward their rear bases. NOTE: This was the first attack by what was later called the Easter Offensive. A large scale operation by the N.V.A. which included 14 infantry divisions totaling more than 120,000 troops, 1200 tanks, artillery units, and other armored vehicles.
Apr. 4, 1975 Vietnam: In Saigon a U.S. Air Force transport plane crashes killing more than 130 people mostly Vietnamese orphaned children.
Apr. 6, 1972 Vietnam: Operation Linebacker begins.
Apr. 10, 1963: The U.S. submarine USS Thresher sinks off the coast of Cape
Cod, Mass., claiming 129 lives.
Apr. 10, 1942 World War II: One day after the fall of Bataan, The Bataan
Death March begins.
Apr. 11, 1945: WW II, American forces liberate the Nazi Concentration Camp
Buchenwald in Germany.
Apr. 11, 1951: President Truman relieves Gen. MacArthur of his far east
command.
Apr. 16, 1953 Korea: The battle for Pork Chop Hill begins.
Apr.21, 1918 World War I: Baron Manfred von Richthofen, the German ace known
as the "Red Baron," is killed in action.
Apr. 30, 1945 World War II: As Russian forces approach, Adolph Hitler
commits suicide.
Apr. 30, 1975 Vietnam: Saigon falls to communist forces as NVA tanks enter
the city.
May 7, 1915: The Lusitania is sunk by a German torpedo;
nearly 1200 people perish.
May 7, 1945: WW II, Germany signs unconditional surrender at Allied
Headquarters, in Rheims, France.
May 7, 1954: The battle at Dien Bien Phu Vietnam ends after 55 days as
French forces are overrun.
May 8, 1945: VE Day - U.S. Recognizes German signing of unconditional
surrender.
May 8, 1972 Vietnam: U.S. Navy mines North Vietnamese Ports.
May 10, 1969 Vietnam: The Battle of Hamburger Hill begins.
May 21, 1968: Nuclear powered submarine USS Scorpion is last heard from on
this day. Later the remains of the Sub were found. The crew of 99 perished.
May 24, 1941 WW II: The H.M.S. Hood is sunk in the North Atlantic by the German battleship Bismarck. 1500 British sailors are killed, only 3 survive.
June 6, 1944 WWII: D-DAY.....The invasion of Europe
begins as Allied Forces storm the beaches of Normandy, France.
June 25, 1950: The Korean War begins as 60,000 North Korean troops invade
South Korea.
June 28, 1914: Austrian Archduke Ferdinand is assassinated in Sarajevo by a
Serb nationalist - triggering WW I.
June 28 1919: The treaty of Versailles is signed in France, ending WW I.
June 28, 1950: North Korean forces capture Seoul, South Korea.

July 6, 1777 The American Revolution; The British
capture Ft. Ticonderoga.
July 6, 1917 World War I: Arab forces led by T.E. Lawrence capture the port
of Aqaba from Turks.
July 9, 1944 World war II: Saipan falls as Japanese defenses are overcome by
American Forces.
July 30, 1942 World War II: The USS Indianapolis is torpedoed by a
Japanese submarine in shark infested waters. Out of a crew of 1,196 only 316
survived. The Captain (Charles Butler McVay III) was court-martialed and
convicted for failing to evade the sub which sank his ship. Recently however
the Navy has exonerated him.

August 15, 1944 Allied Forces land in southern France.
August 15, 1945 Proclaimed as VJ day as Japan agrees to an unconditional
surrender.
August 18, 1951 Korea: The Battle of Bloody Ridge begins as the U.S. 2nd Division's 9th Infantry Regiment assaults entrenched North Korean troops atop a series of hills. Casualties were heavy.

Sep. 3, 1943 Italy signs secret armistice with the allies as the British 8th
Army invades Italy.
Sep. 11, 2001 The US is attacked by suicide terrorist in N.Y. City and Wash. D.C. Three hi-jacked commercial airliners are used as missiles to bring down the two World Trade Center Towers in NY and damaging the Pentagon in Wash. D.C. A fourth crashes in rural Pennsylvania. Thousands are killed and injured in the worst terrorist attack against American Citizens in US history.

area of Trier.
Sep. 18, 1947 The U.S. Air Force is established.
Sep. 18, 1950 Korea: The Inchon operation and the liberation of Seoul
begins.
